Having been trained as a cosmetologist, I worked in salons as a specialist in perms and hair colorings for years. With this background , I went into the shampoo bar venture skeptical. If it wasn't expensive and in a bottle, how could it be worth using?
Considering our family's desire to move away from as much chemical processes as possible, I decided to give it a try. Our bars are full of oils that have wonderful nutrients like Vitamins A, D, & E, not to mention the wonderful benefits of Fresh Goat Milk. Since we had so many positive results from using our soap we decided to give the shampoo bar a try.
I have noticed with our lotions and soaps there is a period where your body adjusts, or detoxifies you might say, from the chemical products it may have been subjected to for years. I had read to give your hair 7-10 days to adjust to the shampoo bars. I was concerned my hair would be flat and lacking body because of the oils present in the bar. In the first three days it seemed a little harder to style, but not terribly so. I did notice some improvement around day 4 and stuck it out and by day 10 it was wonderful! Although most people see the benefits to their hair and skin immediately, the full impact seems to become glaringly apparent after about 2 weeks. There doesn't seem to be much of a transition time with non-chemically treated hair. I did notice an adjustment period with my colored hair. Now I can't stand the thought of going back to bottled shampoo.
So what results did I notice?
I have chemically colored hair. I have been trying to grow out the color, so at this point I have some colored and some natural. I still have to use conditioner but it is quite a bit less than I used to, because I only use it on the colored part of my hair. When I was using salon shampoo and conditioner, my hair was very unhealthy looking with lots of split ends. Even with conditioner my hair was dull and frizzy with no sheen. Sometimes it just would not style for me. Now after using the shampoo bar, my hair looks very healthy and has a beautiful sheen. My split ends have been tamed. Also, the colored part doesn't look as brassy, but a more natural color so I can finish growing it out without it looking terrible. My hair isn't flat either! Each day, I like these bars better and better. One of my sons had yellow oily patches on his scalp. After using the shampoo bars those patches have disappeared along with the dandruff. We are thrilled with the results. Maybe you will be too!
