| Promise is a powerful, very impressive looking doe both in size and structure. Combining incredible length and strength of bone she still manages to maintain her femininity. As a very immature yearling and at times verging on being somewhat frail looking, she rarely placed well in her classes, most of the time being at the end of the line. Since then she has grown into a beautiful productive doe. She is really a love it or leave it doe. Some judges hate her and others love her. Her udder is very well attached but doesn't have that "pretty" globular shape that some judges look for and a rather "plain" face. We can't complain as she peaked at #17lbs of milk this year and who can be unhappy about that. At the age of 5 her udder is still high and wide with the attachment still holding strong even with years of heavy milk load. Not our beauty queen, she has earned her place here with her steady and reliable production. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2010: Promise freshened with triplets this year. We have had a difficult time keeping her body condition up as she kicked into milk production quite heavily this year. We were on her mastitis last year quickly and she has recovered very well with little lasting effect on her mammary. Her mammary is looking fantastic this year and in her first show went BUOB in 2 different rings and over 3 other finished champions. Our 2nd show was a bit disappointing. Scheduled in the late afternoon, she went into the ring and looked super- winning 1st in her class, then RGCH and BU. After the first ring she needed to be relieved of milk and promptly proceeded to empty out half her udder on her own. Needless to say in the following rings she was not competitive, but sometimes that is the way it goes. 2009: Promise freshened this year with a mild case of mastitis which made her a little light on the production this year as compared to others. She is slightly lopsided and if you didn't know to look for it probably wouldn't notice it. She needs one more leg to finish, but after freshening with mastitis, and kidding so late in the season (June), we took it easy on her and didn't take her to but a couple of low key shows. She really was looking fabulous this year at the age of 4, so maybe this coming freshening, at 5, will be the one with which we can finish her championship. She was feeling slightly camera shy in the picture above, but you get the idea of how she was looking! 2008: Promise placed either 1st or 2nd in all classes she was shown in. As we went further into the show season she placed more often in 1st. She won a restricted leg going reserve to Splash, who at that point was finished. Then she went on to win Senior Grand Champion Alpine Doe at the 2008 Oregon State Fair over other finished champions that were shown in the regular classes. This gave her the 2nd leg towards her permanent championship. She appraised EX90 as a 3yo and was also awarded her superior genetics designation. She peaked at 15lbs a day on milk test. 2007: She started moving up the line but was still needing some maturity. 2006: She really wasn't shown much as she was milking so heavily we had a hard time keeping her well fleshed. She placed at the end of the line in most shows as she was somewhat frail looking. I remember when I first clipped her I thought she was one of the homeliest looking does I had seen and was ready to sell her. She stayed because she could really put the milk out. |
