Show Updates 2008

I am amazed at how our breeding program has grown in leaps and bounds.  Thanks to God who ultimately enables us and to the many friends we have made, and that have helped us and continue to help us learn.

MegaBucks Show, Grants Pass, OR (3 rings):

We regularly kick off the year with our buck show.  This is a great way to get back into the swing of things after a long winter.  I had a terrible time deciding to go as there was so much going on at home and was finally talked into it.  I guess it was great that we went, but boy did I get ribbed about it after we did so well.  We took 3 bucks.  Placings: 1 x GCH, 1 x BOB, 2 x RGCH, 3 x JrGCH, 8 x 1st, 1 x 2nd.

NWODGA Doe Show, Salem, OR (3 rings):  Our first doe show of the season was lovely.  For some reason I felt all thumbs at the way the ring was set up. I'm not sure what was going on.  I always felt like I was showing with my left hand.  Guess I need to practice that more. :)  Splash looked fabulous and won her final legs to become a permanent GCH.  We took 6 does.  Placings: 2 x GCH, 2 x BUOB, 3 x 1st, 6 x 2nd, 3 x 3rd, 3 x 4th, 2 x 5th, 1 x 6th.  Maggie and Promise swapped spots regulary in this show.  Ranna laid on her udder in such a way that she successfully emptied out half of it!  Her being such a large doe, that got her knocked to 6th place in her class for lack of capacity. :(  The other rings she went 2nd in a class of 6.  Christopher, 11, won GCH in the Jr. Showmanship class.  David won GCH in the Intermediate showmanship class.  Great turn out for the alpines!

Roseburg Triple Crown, Roseburg, OR (4 rings):
In our eyes, this was our best show so far this year!  Wow, there was such a high caliber of animals in attendance!  Maggie and Promise again regulary swapped spots for multiple 2nd and 3rds behind the first place 3yo, that eventually went GCH/BOB and BDIS in all 4 rings.  Beatitude gave us and others a good chuckle in the 2yo class of one ring when the judge kept coming back to her and moving her up from 9th place one by one to end up at 4th.  A maternal sister to Splash, she is really turning into an excellent doe and with time & maturity is going to be amazing.  Ebony and Ranna consistently swapped spots for 1st and 2nd in the yearling class with each taking 3rd once. Both took turns winning first udder in that class.  All the does were placing at the top of their classes in the majority of rings.  We had at least one doe in each ring's championship line up.  In one ring after the 3yo was named GCH, we needed to bring in Maggie who had placed 2nd to that doe in her class.  We suddenly realized, 3 of the 5 does in that ring's championship line up were now ours!  I would have to say that was the highlight of the show for us.  Maggie went on to win RGCH.  We took 5 does.  Placings: 1 x RGCH, 5 x 1st, 6 x 2nd, 6 x 3rd, 2 x 4th, and 1 x 5th.

Linn Co. Fair, OR:

1 ring Jr. and Sr. seperately Sanctioned ADGA Show.  Promise earned 1 GCH leg,  Assurance won 1st in her class and then Jr. RGCH.  Vivre, Beatitude, and Ranna went 1st in their classes as well.  We won 1st in the following classes: Produce of Dam, Dam & Daughter, Jr. Get of Sire,  Dairy herd, Breeder's trio. David won 4-H GCH Intermediate Meat Goat Showman and advanced to the Master Showmanship competition.  Unfortunately, the dairy goat he got to show was quite wild and reared up and butted him in the gut which put both of them on the ground! The goat decided to behave the rest of the round after that, ;) but it kind of knocked the wind out of David, literally, for the rest of the competition. :-b  Christopher won RGCH 4-H Junior Dairy Goat Showman, Clint won third 4-H Intermediate Dairy Goat Showman.

Clackamas Co. Fair, OR (Aug 12):
  An ADGA Sanctioned show.

Oregon State Fair
(Aug 30):  An ADGA sanctioned show.
